When Dr. Anil Pillay, an ER doctor in Gary, Indiana and a friend of BGD&C Vice President, Charles Grode, approached us with the idea of building intubation boxes that prevent Coronavirus aerosol infection, we just couldn’t say no. Dr. Pillay is on the frontline where supplies are short, money is tight and the protection he and his team need is difficult to come by.
Intubation Boxes
Dr. Pillay came to Charlie for help, knowing that BGD&C’s experience designing and building quality custom homes could be applied to producing intubation boxes for the hospital he worked at. BGD&C reviewed the design and priced out the plastic, but unfortunately hit a road block when they couldn’t get the special glue needed to assemble the boxes. Undeterred, BGD&C forged ahead by turning to local custom plastics fabricator, Petersen Plastics. BGD&C Custom Homes negotiated a contract, engineered details, coordinated delivery and graciously took care of payment
Anil asked Charlie on a Monday morning, by that Friday at 3pm they were on their way to the hospital…in record time for custom work…now, that’s teamwork!
Since then, BGD&C has received a number of kind words and thanks from doctors and healthcare workers letting us know how these boxes help prevent contagion. We are now ideating next steps on how we can help further.
