Gorgeous Gardens

Summer is an amazing time in Chicago. We emerge from months of hibernation to enjoy our beautiful city – bike rides along the lakefront, brunch at our favorite roof top gardens, and backyard BBQs with friends and neighbors.

Unfortunately, summer is all too short here, so at BGD&C we do our best to help our clients milk every last drop of those precious sunny days and magical warm nights with expansive hardscapes, outdoor fireplaces, and covered porches. We also understand outdoor space is at a premium in the Lincoln Park and Gold Coast areas, which is why we are always looking to incorporate roof decks, loggias, and balconies into our custom home designs. We then collaborate with the city’s most prestigious landscape designers to execute each client’s unique vision for endless summer festivities.

Below are a few of our favorite projects for the season.

LINCOLN PARK VENETIAN HOME

Inspired by European gardens, the hardscape, outdoor fireplace, and pergola work together to create a romantic outdoor room perfect for intimate gatherings and casual al fresco dining.

Struck by the beauty of the Palazzos on the Grand Canal in Venice, the original client requested BGD&C design a true Italian villa in Chicago’s Gold Coast. When the subsequent owner purchased the home and adjoining properties, BGD&C was called upon once again. They created an additional main plaza, indoor swimming pool and guest house.

LINCOLN PARK TUSCAN HOME

From the very first meeting, our clients expressed their wishes for Tuscan inspired architecture and landscaping. They were adamant the landscape and various roof decks be our top priority, and we were happy to oblige.

From intimate gathering spots to a large roof deck fit for hosting summer parties, there is an outdoor space for every occasion. The roof deck features a pool, built-in barbecue, fireplace, and space for both casual lounging and al fresco dining. The home’s elevator opens directly to the roof deck for ultimate convenience.

With a vision of old Italy, the client desired an inviting home in which to relax and entertain. In addition to the rooftop, BGD&C incorporated ten fireplaces, three guest rooms, and extensive gardens, creating a home that epitomizes “casual elegance.”

LINCOLN PARK MEDITERRANEAN HOME

The 8,500SF new construction home of our Lincoln Park Mediterranean project resides on two wide lots and was designed for a young family. Instead of maxing out the size of the home, the clients preferred a smaller home to allow for an expansive side yard and patio.

The clients are world travelers and spend a lot of time in Europe – so traditional European design influences were integrated throughout the home and garden. A third lot was added towards the end of the project which became a large side yard, garden and wishing well.

The generous side yard provides a welcomed respite from city life. Without leaving home, the family can enjoy both quiet moments in the structured gardens as well as active play in the open yard.
