Design Inspiration: Ceiling Details

Just as the perfect hat completes an outfit, tying it all together head-to-toe (imagine a 3-piece suit with matching fedora), a ceiling is the accessory that finishes a room.  Yes, the suit would look fine without the fedora, but with the hat and a pocket square, it’s a whole new level of sophistication. It’s the same with ceiling details – sure you can paint the ceiling flat white and call it a day, but if you really want to make an impact, adding detail to the ceiling is a must.

Here we’ve gathered some of our favorite examples of ceiling details that perfectly “top off” a room:

BEAMS and PLANKS

Rustic beams and painted tongue-and-groove planks complement the earthy, serene Family Rm in our Lincoln Park Transitional Home.

Also in our Lincoln Park Transitional Home, a refined beam adds polish and sophistication to the Game Rm.

The European chateau-inspired Wine Room in our Lincoln Park Mediterranean Home features a stained plank ceiling.

The Kitchen in our Lincoln Park English home feels cozy under a stained tongue-and-groove planked ceiling with matching beams.

COFFERED CEILINGS

The richly decorated Living Room in our Lincoln Park English home features a handsome coffered ceiling with stained beams and a painted ceiling.

The coffered ceiling in the Living Room of our Gold Coast Parisian home is made of white oak stained to match the millwork and leather panels surrounding the room, creating a cohesive envelope.

DECORATIVE CEILINGS

The ceiling tile above the pool in our Lincoln Park Transitional Home beautifully reflects the light from the ceiling cove

The gorgeously detailed ceiling in the theater of our Lincoln Park Venetian Home helps transport movie viewers to the golden age of cinema.
