Case Study:
Lakeshore Vintage Co-op
BGD&C Chicago Custom Home Builders renovated this 4,500-square-foot 1926 vintage co-op on Lake Shore Drive. The clients, a husband and wife, are world travelers and spend time living abroad but wanted a home base in Chicago. When they purchased the condo it was overrun with Medieval architectural elements—heavy beams, plaster and lathe walls, coat of arms (very Don Quixote-esque). The team at BGD&C renovated the penthouse and maximized the new space to take advantage of double high ceilings, spectacular lake views and an incredible amount of natural light.
See the before photos of this traditional great room below.
During construction the original marble inlayed foyer and vaulted ceilings were meticulously restored. As with any gut rehab in older buildings you never know what you’ll find behind the walls– all the electrical wiring and plumbing pipes needed to be completely redone. The result– a beautiful, airy home with refined modern English influences.
